IMPHAL, August 7: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Wednesday assured the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) that the state Cabinet would take decision in two-three days on making the Barak circle a separate sub-division but rejected the key demand of the committee saying it was not the right time to declare Jiribam as a full-fledged revenue district considering the present state of affairs in the state.
Representatives of JDDC met the Chief Minister at his office here and discussed about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state Government and the committee. The meeting held in the afternoon prominently deliberated on granting of Jiribam as a full-fledged revenue district, JDDC convenor Mutum Meipaksana told newsmen after the meeting.Revenue minister Th Debendra also took part in the meeting on the Government side.JDDC and the state Government signed an 11-point MoU on November 9, 2011. One of the key demands mentioned in the MoU is to declare Jiribam as a seperate district. Jiribam is a sub-division of Imphal East district.Meipaksana said the Ibobi also told the JDDC side that all the points in the MoU are being considered by the Government, but the Chief Minister rejected the major demand of the committee to declare the sub-division as a revenue district saying that it would take more time owing to the law and order situation in the state.However, the Chief Minister assured the JDDC leaders that the state Cabinet would take a decision in two-three days to make the Barak circle a separate sub-division. Barak circle falls under Jiribam.JDDC president H Mema Devi, vice-president S Sushila Devi, advisors H Joykumar and L Jaminikanta, and convenor Meipaksana represented the committee side in the meeting
The next course of action of JDDC will be decided after discussing in detail with the Jiribam public on Wednesday’s meeting with the Chief Minister, Meipaksana said.
