IMPHAL, August 10: The 4th Annual Children’s Meet, 2013 was held in Imphal under the theme ‘Today’s Secured Childhood Ensures as Magnificent Tomorrow.’Presentation of dance, song, drama and cultural items by children from the nine districts of Manipur was the main highlight of the meet organised by the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR), Maringlane, New Chekon under the sponsorship of Children Rights and You (CRY), Kolkata at the auditorium of Tribal Research Institute.Participating in the function, Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai asserted that organsing the meet will strengthen the bond of the youths in the hill and valley.She also said organising such events frequently will aid national integration.Miraibai said the state Government’s Social Welfare Department has taken up various scheme and projects for the welfare of children under the Government of India.She said these policy and programmes for children also provide good food to the physically challenged children and children permanently bereaved of their parents to make them healthy.The minister said other facilities are also given to children by setting up of Protection of Child Rights under which they are provided education and nutrition to make them healthy.Mirabai further said that 42 different schemes are now being taken up in the state under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), informing that the Government is exerting efforts to implement these schemes at the block level, too.
She said now the nine districts of the state have Juvenile Justice Boards after implementing the Child Protection Act to punish child traffickers.MLAs Th Biswajit, Olympian MC Mary Kom, Mr World Dr Ng Shantikumar Meetei, associate general manager, CRY, Kolkata, Ashim Kumar Ghosh and MACR convenor, K Pradipkumar were also present at the occasion.
